Dr. Carter

DMD

Dr. Carter’s journey to dentistry is anything but ordinary—and that’s part of what makes him such a great storyteller!

Born in Louisiana, Dr. Carter moved around several towns before his family settled in Wiggins, Mississippi, when he was in the fifth grade. A natural athlete, he played just about every sport at Stone High School, where he earned All-Conference honors in football, was named “Most Outstanding Lineman,” and was selected “Mr. Stone High School.”

He continued his football career at Perkinston Junior College (now Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College), helping his team win a state championship his sophomore year. While there, he was named “Mr. Perkinston Junior College” and served as Student Body President.

Dr. Carter went on to Millsaps College on a Diamond Anniversary Scholarship to play football. He lettered in both football and baseball and was selected “Greek God.” He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and Kappa Alpha Order – Alpha Mu at Millsaps.

After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Dr. Carter worked as a research chemist in New Orleans before returning to Jackson, where he worked as a chemist at UMMC in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, conducting fetal maturity studies. He then attended Dental School at UMMC and was a member of its very first graduating class.
In 2008, Dr. Carter was honored with induction into the Millsaps College Football Hall of Fame.

Outside of the office, Dr. Carter is a proud husband, dad, and grandfather. He and his wife, Cissy, have three children—Angie, Neil, and Catherine—and 10 grandchildren. He enjoys golf, bowhunting, and fishing with his young grandsons, T. Mark, Amos, and Solomon. Dr. Carter and Cissy attend First Baptist Church Jackson, where he serves as a greeter and Cissy sings in the choir.
And if you know Dr. Carter, you know there’s always a good story nearby! He started mowing lawns at just 11 years old and regularly cared for 35 yards around his hometown, pushing his 18-inch Big Wheel Yazoo mower with a five-gallon gas can in hand. One of those lawns belonged to the legendary Dizzy Dean, and Dr. Carter’s memories of those interactions are some of his favorite—and funniest—stories to tell.

Dr. Carter loves his patients and truly loves dentistry. He enjoys sharing stories, making people laugh, and poking a little fun at himself and his “salt of the earth” rural upbringing. He especially enjoys mentoring and teaching prospective dental students and dental assistants.

Most of all, Dr. Carter wants every patient who walks through the door to feel comfortable, cared for, and confident in their smile. His goal is simple: to help every patient leave with their BEST SMILE!

Flossy

Office Manager

Hi! My name is Flossy, and I’m a miniature Aussiedoodle from the great state of Missouri. I’m 35 pounds of sable-and-sienna cuteness, in case you were wondering. My people say Aussiedoodles are very smart, friendly, and good-looking. I can confirm all three. 😉

Five years ago, on April 1st, Dr. Carter brought me home as a special surprise for his wife, Cissy. Apparently, it was supposed to be a wonderful gift. Cissy was…well…let’s just say NOT impressed. Dr. Carter calls it a “bad April Fool’s event.” Personally, I think she just needed a little time to appreciate how adorable I am.

I was originally supposed to be the Therapy Dog at Dr. Carter’s dental office. But then Cissy and I met, and I decided pretty quickly that she was my person. Cissy is Dr. Carter’s wife, and I’ve made it my personal mission to keep her company, supervise her activities, and make sure she never feels lonely. You’re welcome, Cissy.
I love going on walks with Cissy at the Neighborhood Trail and around the little lake behind our house. There is always something interesting to sniff, investigate, or stare at very intensely.

I also love coming to Dr. Carter’s dental office, where I get to see all my friends. And every week, I have my very important Spaw Day at Camp Bow Wow. It’s exhausting being this fabulous.

When I’m not working, walking, or getting pampered, you can usually find me chewing on a good bully stick or patrolling the backyard. I take my security duties very seriously. I keep watch for squirrels, birds, deer, other dogs, and—most importantly—butterflies. You just never know what those suspicious little flying things might be up to.

I may have started out as an April Fool’s surprise, but five years later, I think it’s safe to say I’m the best decision Cissy never knew she needed. 🐶❤️
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a squirrel to bark at.
